Os Gémeos- Cooperativa de Solidariedade Social, CRL, is located at Portugal, region of Lisbon and Tagus valley, county of Loures and local county of Apelação. It is a private non profit organisation with the status of “Private Institution of Social Solidarity/ IPSS” which through the national law means having a certified commitment to social intervention and development.
The activities are:
1) Kindergarten for children from 3 to 12 months (7), from 13 to 24 months (8) and 25 to 36 months (15);
2) Pre-school for children from 3 to 6 years old (24);
3) Study room for children from 7 to 11 years old (15);
4) Youth club for young people from 12 to 16 years old;
5) Parents learning centre for social, cultural, leisure, education and training activities for institution and community;
6) Communitarian services for catering, social events organisation services.
Gémeos.crl was born in September 2006, by a social entrepreneurship project in approval process, allowing an investment of about 175.000 Euros with total expected national subvention of 1about 135.000 Euro, creating eleven permanent jobs.
The actual number of pupils is 67; the internal staff has 3 educators, 4 auxiliaries, 1 cooker and manager; the external assessors are 1 social worker and a local development agent.
It is member of the UCTA- Union of Cooperatives of Associated Work, a national organisation and multi- sectors cooperatives union; is also member affiliated at county social network.
Poland
Socio - Therapy Center for Maladjusted Youths provide education for the children.from 12 – 18 years old with bad behavior and learning problems. Our institution has 72 pupils, 12 educators, tutors in boarding – school and 14 teachers in Primary School, Gymnasium - in one building. We work out projects for disadvantaged groups, countering under – achievement at school and preventing exclusion.
Particular attention is given to addressing the needs of person with ADHD. We develop and test together methods and approaches in such areas as prevention of conflicts and violence in our school, flexible and personalized teaching methods. Socio - Therapy Center for Maladjusted Youths places particular emphasis on the key role of the school education in preparing young people for adult life in a rapidly changing world.
We have 12 computers and internet. We are responsible for providing knowledge and skills for pupils from socio – economic disadvantaged background , helping them to develop learning strategies. We train pupils to behave in a way that is acceptable in the society. Promoting equal opportunities and combating all forms of exclusion are important objectives of Socio - Therapy Center for Maladjusted Youths.
Romania
Founded in 1959, in the Floreasca district, our school is one of the prestigious schools of the Romanian capital. This appreciation is confirmed by very good results obtained by our pupils at the admission exams in high schools, at the Olympic school contests. Meetings with personalities of the Romanian cultural life, Math’s contests, trips, shows, sport competitions, optional lessons of informatics are organized in our school.
Competent and responsible the teaching staff, made up of 15 school masters and 28 teachers guide over 800 pupils that pass the threshold of our school every year. The foreign languages are studied from the first grade, i.e. English as the first foreign language, French and German as the second foreign language from the third grade.
To accomplish the demands of the children our school has organized lots of actions necessary for a better understanding and resolving of the complexes situations in today's society:
- "The pupils and the human rights", a seminar and contest organized together with the League for the Defense of the Human Rights,
- "The Character First" an action developed with the help of the Institute Basic Life Principles, by American students, about how to behave in diverse situations,
- 5 Comenius Projects developed through the Socrates National Agency,
- Participations in SRPING DAY project 2003 and 2004,
- The collaboration with the Foundation "Mater" for programs’ which will help children with family difficulties in order to eliminate school abandonment,
- The participation in the action “The Forest Month" in collaboration with Romsilva (Romanian Department of Forest),
- The participation with the project "Angeli dipinti, angeli virtuali" in the Netdays Europe 2000, an European Community Project,
- The organization of the seminar "Young People and the drugs consumption" with the help of the Police Department,
- A lot of trips on mountains routes and with a literary or historical purpose.
The material basis of the school:
- 15 classrooms (each having 3-4 glass blackboards),
- Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology each having specific devises, castings and didactic exhibits,
- Laboratories for English language and PC Informatics,
- A gym hall with gymnastics apparatuses, mattresses, showers and cloakrooms,
- A library (over 16,000 books and 900 readers),
- A technology workshop,
- A medical room.
